When traveling by car, keep in mind that you have to comply with the vignette in Italy, Austria and Slovenia. In Italy, additional tolls may apply. You can also reach Istria easily by plane. Croatian airports have the advantage that they are very small, so you can find your way around quickly and easily. Taste Istrian wines!

Istria is also a foodie paradise, especially for those who love good wine. Istrian Malvasia is a grape variety from which Istria's most famous wine is made, and there are plenty of fantastic wineries all across the peninsula you can visit. Not only will you be able to taste some great wine there, but the hosts will make sure you try some of the most famous local dishes along with that. Therefore, you may want to try and find a villa with a pool close to one of these places. Trust us when we say that your Istrian villa holiday will be so much better when you have just one sip of this incredible wine. But you will surely be offered more than one variety, so make the most of it! There are plenty of large villas in Istria which are situated in somewhat remote locations. Don't think of this as a drawback, though, because many small towns around here have excellent konobas that offer authentic Istrian food. If you're in luck and can taste the authentic Istrian truffle, go for it! Also, try fuži, a traditional type of pasta around here. That, paired with the aforementioned Malvasia, makes for an incredible dinner, and spending your evening in a small village of stone houses eating that kind of food and coming back to your luxury villa in Istria will be one of the highlights of your holiday.

Visit (food) festivals

And since we're on the subject of food, keep in mind that you can visit a lot of food festivals in Istria throughout the year. However, the Istrian Pasta Festival in Žminj and the international wine exhibition called Vinistra in Poreč are particularly famous, so why not find some holiday villas with a private pool near one of those towns in Istria? The pasta festival is sure to be a hit with the kids too, and staying in this kind of accommodation will make sure they have the time of their lives.
