Villas for rent in Žminj
In the heart of Istria, the small town of Žminj stands on a high plateau, a location that is considered to be the historical intersection of all roads in the region. If you look into the distance, you can very easily see the tower of the parish church of Archangel Michael; the landmark and symbol of the Istria County rises above the rooftops of Žminj.
Today, Žminj is a holiday destination, one that can be actively explored. Idyllic cycling and hiking trails invite you to explore the picturesque landscape of this part of Croatia. You should also visit the village of Savičenta where you can admire the stone Venetian castle Morosini-Grimani as well as the loggia with open atrium and arcades.
Just a few kilometers away from Žminj, you will find the most beautiful beaches in Istria. For example, you can drive to Rovinj, which can be reached in just half an hour, and you will find many great beaches which you can thoroughly enjoy. In terms of gastronomy, Žminj has a lot to offer too because in the evening you can sit in konoba Žminjka and enjoy a true Mediterranean dinner, for example.

How to reach Žminj
Since Žminj is very centrally located in Istria, we recommend you travel to this lovely place by car. You can also take a plane to Pula first and then rent a car to get here, which may be a good idea if you’re coming from far away because low-cost companies fly to Pula on regular basis. Besides, Pula is just a half an hour’s drive away from Žminj. Žminj is also well connected with Croatia’s capital city Zagreb, so you can easily get a bus if you land there, too.
If you’re coming in from Slovenia, or even Austria or northern Italy, you’re probably better off coming with a car because Žminj is really not that far away. Once you get here, head straight to your holiday villa and refresh yourselves in its pool!
There are many things to see in Žminj, some real historical treasures. The bastions dating from the 15th century have been well preserved: four round towers, one wing of the fortress, the outer part of the walls, as well as the public cistern from 1863 can all still be seen here. In the heart of Žminj stands a large baroque, three-winged parish church of St. Mihovil built in 1625.
In addition, there are three other small churches in the town, all of which are decorated with some very interesting frescoes. The one in the Church of the Holy Trinity was painted in 1471, for example. The church dedicated to St. Anthony the Great, which dates back to 1381, is also decorated with frescoes, as is the Church of the Holy Cross.
At the entrance to the town, there is also the Church of St. Bartol, where a big festival is held every last Saturday in the month of August.
A different thing to see while in Žminj is the stalactite cave Festinsko Kraljevstvo, located not far from Žminj itself in the village of Festini. In the almost 60 m long and about 30 m wide cave, you will find curious stalactite formations such as the well-known “magic hat", the “Tower of Babylon" and the “bat fly".
What to do in Žminj
In Žminj there are various cycling and hiking trails, which will allow you to admire the picturesque nature of Istria. Cycling tours through Remenija or Žminj-Festini, for example, will take you through idyllic landscapes. Along the way, you will find first-class restaurants and konobas where you can stop and enjoy a memorable meal. Hikers can walk through vineyards, olive groves and many lonely structures, such as the church of St. Fusca. If you like it action-packed, you can do an off-road tour with an Enduro bike or a quad, and the zipline in Pazin is quite close, too. Here you can fly at about 60 km/h over a stunning gorge.

If you want to fish by the sea, you can take a car to Rovinj or Poreč and enjoy a small fishing trip. Those who would rather have their food served without too much trouble can enjoy the culinary variety of restaurants and konobas.
