Croatian villas with swimming pool for rent in Split

The impressive town of Split in Dalmatia was built as early as the 3rd century on behalf of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. Today is a great historical and cultural center that attracts thousands of guests every year. People who enjoy cozy restaurants and cafes will surely appreciate this city. Particularly popular are the Konoba - small cozy restaurants with reasonable prices. Along the Riva and in the center of Split you can taste the specialties of the Dalmatian cuisine in excellent restaurants, such as fresh fish, squid risotto, lobster and other delicacies. After such delicacies we recommend a digestive walk along the Riva, where there is a colorful and lively bustle in the evening hours. Because entertainment is very important in Split!

Getting to Split

Split can be reached from Germany by car, train, bus and plane. By car (either from the direction of Zagreb or Dubrovnik) drive to the motorway exit Dugopolje. From here a freeway continues and to Split it is only 15 kilometers. For the journey from Sibenik to Split out of season, the coastal road is particularly beautiful, because it offers wonderful impressions of the sea, islands and Mediterranean landscape - and also saves you even the fees for the highway. Split has very good bus connections to all cities in Croatia and also to Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as to Germany and Austria. The bus station is close to the city center and not far from the ferry terminal. By plane you arrive in Resnik, a place about 24 km from Split. From the airport you can take a bus that leaves directly at the terminal building. The Split train station is located next to the bus station and is therefore not far from the ferry port. Trains from Vienna, Belgrade, Prague and Budapest leave for Split in summer.

What to discover in Split

The city's landmark is the Diocletian's Palace, which was once surrounded by a high stone wall. Of this, unfortunately, only a few fragments have survived today. The architectural complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the country's main attraction. On the territory of the palace is also housed the Museum of Split. The baptistery is also very interesting, the baptismal font is certainly a highlight. Anyone interested in archeology should not miss out on a visit to the Archaeological Museum. In addition to many wonderful expositions, there is also an extensive collection of precious stones to admire. The St. Dominic Church dates from the 13th century. Many beautiful old pieces have been preserved in the miniature church. The Cathedral of Saint-Douilly was built on the ruins of ancient Roman buildings and is decorated in Byzantine style. Part of the cathedral is today an interesting historical museum. Exhibits include antique pectoral crosses, military relics and unique manuscripts.

What to do in Split

There is a wide range of entertainment for guests in Split. Lovers of unusual tours should visit the Ivan Meštrović Studio Museum. The famous sculptor lived in this historic building and also had his workshop there. Those who like to hike are in good hands in the Strossmayer Park, which is very popular with leisure hikers. It was founded in the 18th century and is one of the oldest parks in the city. The park Marjan should be visited early in the morning because it is located in the mountainous area and the climb can be very exhausting on hot days. The Croatian Maritime Museum is now housed in the fortress of Gripe. In this museum, founded in 1925, you can admire, among other things, models of old ships and old ship equipment. The main attraction is the unique collection of torpedoes, officially recognized as the oldest in the world. And of course, you can visit one of the numerous beaches, enjoy water sports activities and, of course, relax in the cozy villa with pool. Popular beaches include:
  • Bacvice
  • Ovcice
  • Trstenik

Enjoy your favorite sport

Split is known in Croatia to be a city that loves sports. The aforementioned Marjan offers plenty of opportunities for recreational activities – you can hike, but you can also afford yourself a lovely jog through the forest or go on a bike ride around the hill. On top of that, there are plenty of tennis courts to choose from all over the place (mostly clay, but some hardcourts can also be found) as well as surfing opportunities on the city beaches. But the number one game in town is undoubtedly football (soccer), and the locals are very passionate about it, especially when it comes to the local football club. Also, the towns around Split have plenty to offer, so don't be afraid to look for your holiday villas in Croatia with a private pool in Trogir, for example, or somewhere towards Omiš and Makarska. Omiš is particularly famous for rafting and ziplining along river Cetina. But wherever you decide to look for your Split holiday rentals, you can be certain that you will always be able to find great large villas with Villsy's help.

Go visit the islands

What makes Split such a great location for your Croatian villa holiday is the fact that the city is close to several extremely beautiful islands. Therefore, you don't need to limit yourself just to villas for rent near Split if you want some peace and quiet – you can find one on the island and then just hop to wherever you want to go. Places like Bol and Hvar are particularly beautiful, but the island of Vis also has a lot to offer. You will find crystal-clear sea and wonderful beaches no matter which destination you choose (Zlatni rat is something everyone should visit at least once), and enjoying relaxed summer evenings in small Mediterranean towns is a very special experience indeed. Not to mention that the food on the islands is simply excellent. Likewise, you can find luxury villas for rent in Split, and then simply get on a ferry or maybe get yourself a sea taxi to get you to one of the islands. It's a great day trip, and all of that can be arranged without any trouble. You will get to see some of the most beautiful places on the whole Mediterranean that way.
