On a cliff above the sea, in Kvarner Bay on island Krk, you will find the town Vrbnik. The Island is very exposed to tourism, but in Vrbnik you can still find a peaceful corner even during the summer season. This place has around thousand inhabitants that are primarily wine growers for a very special reason. This is the only known place for growing žlahtina variety of vine (the old Slavic name for “noble”) which produces quality dry white wine. Our advice is to taste it combined with traditional Krk sheep milk cheese (krčki sir) whose secret of quality lies in rockery and pastures near the sea. Besides the natural and gastronomic wonders, the people of these parts are very hospitable and pleasant. Above all, the place has a great cultural and historical heritage: Vrbnik was mentioned very early in written form, it has one of the oldest bylaws in Croatia and also the largest number of Medieval Croatian alphabet (Glagolitic) manuscripts.
