Great Host who cares about the guests and responds in no time if there are any questions. The house is even better in person and is spotless. It has everything you need to relax and have a great time. Our highlights were the big pool, table soccer and table tennis and plenty of space that can easily accommodate up to 12 guests (we were 11 and no one had issues to get room for themselves). Also the driveway has space for around 5 cars depending on their size. The beach can be reached in around 15 min by foot. Going back can take longer since the house is located higher up on the hill, but still possible. Staying here is highly recommended!

About location

Welcome to Opatija

Opatija, located along the picturesque Kvarner Bay in northeastern Istria, is a renowned coastal town with a rich history and a reputation as one of Croatia’s premier tourist destinations. Known for its elegant architecture, lush parks, and stunning sea views, Opatija has been attracting visitors since the 19th century when it became a fashionable retreat for European aristocracy.

Historical Center

Opatija's historical charm is evident in its grand villas, many of which date back to the Austro-Hungarian period. The Villa Angiolina, built in 1844, is one of the town's most iconic landmarks and now houses the Croatian Museum of Tourism. Surrounding the villa is the Angiolina Park, a meticulously maintained garden featuring exotic plants and flowers from around the world.

The Church of St. Jacob, a modest but historic building, is another key landmark. Located in the heart of the town, it was originally built as part of a Benedictine abbey, from which Opatija (meaning "abbey") derives its name.

Cultural Heritage

Opatija is often referred to as the "Pearl of the Adriatic" for its blend of cultural elegance and natural beauty. The town's seafront promenade, the Lungomare, stretches for 12 kilometers and connects Opatija with neighboring coastal towns. Along the way, visitors can admire historic villas, art installations, and breathtaking views of the sea.

Cultural events, including concerts, theater performances, and art exhibitions, are a regular feature in Opatija. The town's open-air Summer Stage hosts a variety of performances, making it a cultural hub for locals and visitors alike.

Nature

Opatija’s coastal setting and mild Mediterranean climate make it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts. The Učka Nature Park, located just a short distance from the town, offers opportunities for hiking, cycling, and bird-watching. Trails lead to the park’s highest peak, Vojak, where visitors are rewarded with panoramic views of the Adriatic sea and surrounding islands.

Opatija’s beaches are another highlight. Pebble and rocky shores, complemented by crystal-clear waters, provide a tranquil setting for relaxation and water activities such as swimming and paddleboarding.

Activities and Experiences

Opatija offers a range of activities for visitors to enjoy:

  • Wellness and Spa: Known for its spa heritage, the town features numerous wellness centers and hotels offering treatments that draw from the area's natural resources.
  • Gastronomy: Restaurants in Opatija serve a variety of Istrian and Mediterranean dishes, including seafood, truffles, and olive oil, often paired with local wines.
  • Excursions: Boat tours and day trips to nearby islands or towns provide opportunities to explore the region further.

Family-Friendly Atmosphere

Opatija’s safe and welcoming environment makes it a great destination for families. The Lungomare promenade is ideal for leisurely walks with children, and nearby beaches cater to families with shallow waters and recreational facilities.

A Timeless Destination

Opatija’s combination of historical elegance, cultural vibrancy, and natural beauty makes it a timeless destination on the Adriatic coast. Whether strolling along the Lungomare, exploring its architectural landmarks, or enjoying its parks and beaches, visitors will find Opatija to be a captivating place that blends history and modernity with ease.
